The aim of this paper was to explore the influence the English language has on the Croatian language. The paper also closely examined the extent of knowledge of English PR and marketing related vocabulary and jargon of students, with an emphasis on the comparison of knowledge between the students of PR and marketing and students of other fields of study. The research methodology consisted of an online survey, due to its simplicity and availability. Two in-depth interviews were conducted. One with Mrs Togonal, a renowned expert in the Croatian language, and another with Mr Turković, a well-known PR expert. They both offered their professional experiences and insights based on their knowledge. The research hypothesis has been met to a point, because the results show that all participants have a good knowledge of the English language. The results also offer a view on the subject of language appropriation and language extinction. The participants share a moderate attitude towards the influence the English language has on the Croatian language, as the results show two most occurring points of view – the first one being the idea that language appropriation is a normal phenomenon and that English is just the latest trend, and the second one, a sense of fear of extinction of the Croatian language due to globalization and the strong influence of the English language.
